Paul McCartney’s Reasoning For Declining a ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Parody

Some time ago, Weird Al Yankovic requested to parody a famous Wings song in which Paul McCartney later rejected. The reasoning behind it may surprise you…

Weird Al wanted to parody “Live and Let Die” as “Chicken Pot Pie” and McCartney denied it because of his vegetarian diet and staunch support of animal rights.
According to Yankovic, who spoke with ESPN’s The B.S. Report, “He didn’t want a song used in any context that would be supposedly promoting the consumption of animal flesh. It’s a valid reason and I get it. And I hate it when people put him on the list of humorless guys, because that wasn’t the case at all. In fact, he [McCartney] said, ‘Think of any other subject and I’m happy to O.K. it’.”
What’s surprises me most about this story is that Yankovic did not pursue any other parodies of McCartney, Wings, or The Beatles. Time will tell if he ever decides to give it another try.
