Hollywood actor Richard Gere recently held a massive auction for his huge collection of vintage guitars, bringing in a total of nearly $1 million.
Gere’s guitar collection netted a total of $936,438, nearly reaching their estimated total of $1 million. The top item was a 1960 Gibson Les Paul solid-body electric guitar, bought for $98,500 by a private collector. Only four of the 106 total guitars failed to sell.

Gere plans to donate all proceeds from the auction to various charities around the world, according to Reuters.
It’s likely the guitars were bought by almost entirely private collectors. These things aren’t meant to be played after all, they’re mostly works of art!
Would you shell out this type of money for a vintage guitar if you could afford it?
