Ozzy Osbourne, David Letterman’s announcer Alan Kalter, and the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital are teaming up to give one lucky fan a trip to New York City for an embarrassing, yet necessary medical examination. Sounds like a pretty unusual contest, but Sharon Osbourne has said that getting a colonoscopy, at Ozzy’s insistence, saved her life.

The name of the contest is the CBS Cares Colonoscopy Sweepstakes and it includes airfare to New York City, hotel accommodations, $500 cash, and the colonoscopy.

According to Wikipedia (the source for all things factual), a colonoscopy is an “endoscopic examination of the large bowel and the distal part of the small bowel with a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera on a flexible tube passed through the anus. It may provide a visual diagnosis (e.g. ulceration, polyps) and grants the opportunity for biopsy or removal of suspected lesions.”

Without receiving one, cancer survivor Sharon Osbourne, 59,  might not be here today.

“My life was saved by a colonoscopy that Ozzy urged me to have and I hope everyone who sees the campaign will enter the sweepstakes and talk to their doctor about the importance of screenings,” Sharon recently stated.

So although the examination is a bit embarrassing and might not be something you share with your friends during conversation, colonoscopies save lives.

Sharon Osbourne knows this all too well. Don’t hesitate to enter the contest because it could save yours!
