————————————————————————————————-

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble is a time-honored tradition, an institution and the World Series of Boston rock! While it is technically a “battle of the bands”, (and the longest running one in the country) it has grown into far more of a 9 night Boston music festival than a competition.

Bands are invited and those who agree to participate are paid for their performance(s).
Finalists get cash and prizes.

No band ever applies or pays to be in the Rumble.

Notables who’ve participated include ‘Til Tuesday, Morphine, Face to Face The Del Fuegos, Powerman 5000, Bleu, Letters To Cleo, Dresden Dolls, Amazing Royal Crowns, La Peste, The Neighborhoods, Waltham, Darkbuster, Mission of Burma, Rods and Cones, The Sheila Divine, 6L6, Scissorfight, Sam Black Church, The Shods, Gang Green, The Bags, Stompbox, Think Tree, Heretix, Tribe, O Positive, Lemonheads, Slapshot, Swinging Steaks, Blake Babies, Big Dipper, Cavedogs, Talking to Animals…

A pretty comprehensive Rumble Wiki page

Who Gets Invited?

While no band applies to play the Rumble, there are certain requirements for consideration. They include, but are not limited to, the following:

-band/artist must be from Boston or New England

-band/artist must be established in the music community and actively playing around Boston and vicinity — once a year at the beach is not established nor active. If band is not currently playing the clubs listed in the local blogs and publications, it is likely too late to be considered for 2012.

-band/artist must have released new music within this year (January through December 2011) –  whether it be singles/EP/LP, digital or otherwise – to qualify

-band/artist must have sent this music to Boston Emissions and received airplay by Anngelle (I get stuff sent from friends of bands. That really does not count).

-band/artist must play original music – no tribute or cover acts

-band/artist cannot be all-instrumental (vocals are part of the judging criteria, sorry)

-band/artist must have online presence via some, most or all of the following: webpage, blog, Facebook music page (aka a fan page  – not a group or person page),
Bandcamp, Twitter, Soundcloud.

-band/artist must have proper contact information, release dates and band member information easily accessible.

-bands/artists who are invited to participate should be sure to have
a high resolution band press photo ready.

-bands/artists who are invited to participate should be sure to have a
proper band bio ready.

-bands/artists who are invited to participate should be sure to have
all of the following: webpage or blog, Facebook “like” page
(not a group or person page), Bandcamp and Twitter.

Rumble-related questions can be directed to Anngelle Wood via anngelle (a) WBCN.com only.  Every effort will be made to answer legitimate inquiries.

Please know that I have been compiling a list for several months that I now must
narrow down to just 24. This very long list includes some of the most
active bands over this past year as well as the ones that have gotten my
attention during this time. If I do not know about your band by now and
have not played your band during this time, this is not your year.

While I appreciate any bands’ desire to be part of the Rumble, I may or may
not respond to “Can my band be in the Rumble?” or “Why is my band not
in the Rumble?” emails.

Thank you.

My very public music submission information can always
be found >here<.

I like pupppies.
